Bread Alone...

Connor: "Ya know what sounds good?" (after just finishing his lunch of a ham sandwhich with chesse, lettuce and mayo...guess he's still hungry:)
Me: "What?"
Connor: "A plain piece of bread. What happens when you eat bread alone?"
Me: (very puzzled...but just for a sec, after all we're talking about Bubba)
"Nothing."
Connor: "But the bible says we can't eat bread alone."
...Kylie goes to grab a bible off the desk shelf, reads the scripture and tries to explain...I still don't think we'll be seeing him eating "a plain piece of bread" anytime soon :)
"And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God." -Luke 4:4

Outside my window...chilly darkness right now, but it was a very "Springy" day :)

I am thinking...about Friday

I am thankful for...my brand new Mrs. Washer and Mr. Dryer and the wonderful anonymous family at our church that donated them. Yes, that's right. Some wonderful, generous, helpful, loving family bought us new appliances. Then had them delivered. Then had our old ones hauled away. Then had our new ones installed. Awesome. God is so good.

From the learning rooms...2 more weeks of school!!! This week...lots of Nehemiah and Greece, and in Kindergarten "Qq" and birds

From the kitchen...we had Buffalo-style Chicken Pizza tonight...lots of easy stuff this week, until Friday...can't wait for Friday

I am wearing...a blue and white striped shirt (Korinne said I look like a sailors wife today???) and green capri pants

I am creating...a place for everything, and trying to keep everything in it's place

I am going...actually, nowhere this week...we have been so busy and so in and out these last 2 weeks...we need some "home" time

I am reading...The Relaxed Homeschool

I am hoping...the week goes quickly, did I mention I CANNOT wait for Friday

I am hearing...the fan in the boys' room...yes, it's that quiet, believe it or not

Around the house...the last of the downstairs bathroom work should be completed tomorrow...thank goodness...we've had so many plumbers, restorationers, tilers, roofers, etc. here lately

One of my favorite things...is not hanging laundry...it's dry, soft, unwrinkled, smelly good clothes, towels, and sheets...oh, and my brand new Mrs. Washer and Mr. Dryer

A few plans for the rest of the week: making the house extra clean, cozy, comfy, and homey for Friday...Just can't wait til FRIDAY

Here is picture thought I am sharing...

Daybook Entry, April 13th

FOR TODAY...Monday, April 13, 2009

OUTSIDE MY WINDOW...is a cold, blustery, and wet day. It rained all day yesterday, and we're just dealing with all the leftovers now.

I AM THINKING...about my OB appointment tomorrow, wondering if they will be able to tell if the baby is a boy or girl, and if they can, if I will be able to resist finding out...

FROM THE LEARNING ROOMS...We just do bible memory verses, hymns, and math on Mondays since we will be starting Monday School with our Co-op soon.

I AM THANKFUL FOR...easily pleased children...it makes life sooo much happier and easier when just some old fashioned, PAAS egg dye, some spray paint for old baskets, and a few candy treats make my kiddos smile!

FROM THE KITCHEN...We have lots of Easter Dinner leftovers to eat, I think I'll make Chicken Tetrazinni for dinner tonight.

I AM WEARING...my lime green capri pants, a blue maternity tee and green and blue flip-flops.

I AM READING...Love and Respect with Brian, Ecclesiastes in my bible, and I'm thinking about re-reading Passionate Housewives again (I need a SAHM pep-talk).

I AM HOPING...Brian can get Ben's health insurance issues taken care of at work today...we've had such a round and round, hard time getting that baby "squared away".

I AM CREATING...new life.

I AM PRAYING...for direction.

AROUND THE HOUSE...I have a little more laundry than usual...Mimi has created lots for me. We think she was becoming a very unhappy housecat as the weather was warming up outside. She is now enjoying life as an outside kitty again. We have been putting her up in her Kitty House Grandpa Gale bought her at night to keep her safe from all the coyotes.

ONE OF MY FAVORITE THINGS...is sleeping on just washed bed sheets!

A FEW PLANS FOR THE REST OF THE WEEK...My OB appt tomorrow, the girls have Observation Week in Ballet...Brian is going to go since he will be out of town for their recital, and finally, finally back to Creation to the Greeks in school...Week 29 here we come!

TJ IS ONE SMART, LITTLE WIPPER-SNAPPER

This week in Kindergarten we are studying the 5 senses. We were doing a review this morning, and we learned the song, "Oh, be careful little eyes (ears, mouth, hands) what you see (hear, say, do)"...and I asked Connor how each "sense" could get you into trouble. He answered each one correctly, and then I asked what sense we left out. SMELL. And I explained that our "nose" couldn't really get us into trouble...TJ, however, spoke right up, "Yeah huh, when you pick your boogers you get into trouble!"

Yes, you sure do....all the kids have heard this week is, "GET A TISSUE!"

Can you tell we've been passing around a cold lately?

a story about numbers

Around 7:30pm last night, I put #6 to sleep in his bassinet in our bedroom. Around 8:30pm, I put #5, #4, and #3 to sleep in their bedroom upstairs (Hank the Cowdog on CD). I head to the family room to watch Pride and Prejudice with my grandma , #2 and #1. Around midnight we go to bed. #2 and #1 decide to sleep with me since Daddy is out of town, and I could get LONELY
#6 is still asleep in his bassinet next to our bed...zzzzzzzzzz... A little while later, #5 wakes up. He cannot find his beloved papa (his pacifier). I trek up the stairs, locate papa, insert into #5's mouth and head back down to our bedroom. Shortly after I doze off again, #6 awakens, famished. I nurse him in bed, where he falls asleep (me too). All is peaceful for a while...until...#3 is standing at my bedside. He has had a bad dream (Hank the Cowdog is evidently scary). I tell him to climb in bed with us. "Us" now consists of me, #3, #6, #1 and #2. We sleep...zzzzzzzzzz... BUT, soon, so very, very soon, #5 wakes up. He is shouting very loudly for me. Locating and inserting papa will not work this time. I scoop him up and head back downstairs. I plop #5 between me and #2. Before my head hits the pillow, I hear #4's little feet coming down the stairs...thud, thud...thud, thud...thud, thud. He does not even try to get close to Momma. He hurls himself at the foot of the bed, on top of the covers and zonkers.

A minute later, Mimi (she does not have a #, she is a doggish-cat), hops onto our bed, looks at me, rolls her eyes, and hops down. I close my eyes. #5 honks my nose. We are not going back to sleep. #3 has no covers. #4 wants chocolate milk. #2 is ready to get up and brush her morning hair.
Good morning glories! So long Sleepertown!

My New Toddler :(

Just a little something to show me that my Wessy Ray-Ray is now a growing, thinking, busy, talking, little toddler...

This afternoon after Wesley woke up from his nap, he was just hanging out in the family room with me and the girls. I was busy putting away the 4th load of laundry and loading the dishwasher for the 3rd time today (no joke) when Wesley came up to me and put his head on my leg. I looked down at him and he held his hand up to mine. "Ahhh, you want Mommy to hold ya, Buddy?" I go to pick him up, he screams, I put him back down. He holds his hand up to me again. I take it in mine. He leads me to the kitchen, walks over to our oven which has the snack cubby above it, and points up at it.

Sooo...I pop some popcorn and make everyone some kool-aid.

I was busy putting away laundry and loading the dishwasher. My baby has been busy growing into a toddler. I am taking the day off tomorrow to play.

connor's collection

We were in a mad dash to get school going this morning, and for some reason, I HAD to have the boys' room clean beforehand. I WAS ON A MISSION. I ended taking all of Connor's beloved "collection" downstairs. I told him, "Go through it and we are only keeping the important stuff!" Well, we only ended up throwing away a used tissue, gross I know. And used pieces of tape, again, I don't know why he keeps the things he does.

The contents of his "Reds Box" are as follows:

1.A used Homemade Brand, Mr.Redlegs Sundae flavored ice cream container, aka his "Reds Box"...it holds all the other contents listed:
2.a packet on how to increase your PT score from Daddy
3.a Reds sticker from Mamaw and Papaw
4.a picture of a seahorse out of a hand soap bottle
5.the address label from the matchbox Nana and Grandpa sent him (Kylie just threw the matchbox away Saturday...it was quite the ordeal)
6.cards that he's received from all kinds of folks since we've been here in AR
7.his ongoing Christmas List
8.about 10 cards that resemble credit cards (and Brian's OSU ID from Fall 1996)
9.three U.S. Army patches that you sew on your uniform
10.a bracelet from the Zoo trip Aunt Rikki took him on
11.two bookmarks, a Superheroes one from the library, and a yellow fish one he made
12.a broken, blue foam sunvisor he made on our trip down here in June
13.a picture of a fish aquarium that Korinne drew him
14.a bunch of green construction paper dollars (he's obsessed with money and coins)
15.two flat, wooden jets he and TJ colored with markers months and months ago
16.a rock
17.broken sunglasses
18.a newspaper picture of Papaw running the chains at Goshen's first home football game this year
19.a clothespin
20.Five IBC rootbeer caps from Grandpa Gale, I think he's lost a few
21.a pencil
22.a pen
23.a used birthday cake candle from his 6th B'Day
24.a toy Army guy (Daddy)
25.a picture of him asleep with his brother, TJ (who has his arm around him because they had watched Ghostbusters and Connor was scared)
26.a homemade card from his cousin, Joey
27.an old, wetted then dried, smashed toilet paper roll (it looks like a treasure map, like on Goonies)
28.an empty baggie
29.a picture of a shark his sister, Kylie drew him
30.an old, lit match (he calls it a bullet)
31.two empty wallets, a camo one from Grandma Dutchie and a Picture of Cars one from Mamaw and Papaw
32.a picture of Kylie at age 2 with Buddy Boy as a puppy
33.a Jeff Bagwell baseball card
34.an empty plastic picture holder that you put in a wallet
35.his new sunglasses from Mamaw and Papaw

I bet you don't have a "collection" that would even compare!!!

"Nutcracker Tea"

Tuesday afternoon the kids and I were having our tea. I was busy helping Wesley with his snack, when I became somewhat aware of a conversation Connor and Korinne were having. I looked over and saw Connor holding his teabag saying, "It's wood". I said, "No, Connor it's not wood, it's tea leaves." He looked puzzled, I guess it does kind of look like wood...I go back to Wesley's snack. I'm half listening to Korinne and Connor again. He turns to his sister and says for the second time, "It's wood, they chop up all the nutcrackers and put them in these bags, and you get Nutcracker Tea". Korinne, Kylie, and I all laugh. "No, Bub, it's tea leaves. They just call it Nutcracker Tea because it is only out for the Christmas Holiday, and there is a Nutcracker on the box to make it look festive." Connor looks even more confused..."That's dumb. What are tea leaves?"

benjamin is home

Ben returned home from the hospital yesterday afternoon. He has been diagnosed with a virus, reflux, and infant sleep apnea. Blood tests confirmed the virus is not RSV, just a cold. He underwent an upper GI tract late Thurs. evening which showed his reflux, and he has been put on Zantac to control it. The doctors are blaming his infant sleep apnea on the reflux. Right now he is taking his med twice daily and is on an apnea monitor which keeps track of his heartbeat and respirations and alarms if they get out of whack. He's been on it since yesterday at about 10:00am, and it has not alarmed yet!!! Thank you everyone for all your prayers. We are so blessed to have our Benny Boo back at home.

a gift for papaw

I want to share a story about my sweet Korinne. Last Saturday the girls and I were busy getting the house in order for our guests. We were mostly putting away all the neglected "this and thats" lying around. I was in my bedroom straightening up my dresser when both my daughters walked in. Korinne held out a tiny, faded, purple envelope. It was wrapped in friendship bracelet string with a sunshine sticker on it.

"What's this?" I asked. "A card." she responded. (I can see that Korinne). "To who?" I asked slowly, expecting it to be for me. "Papaw Richard." she answered.

...Papaw Richard had gone home to live with Jesus one year and six days before.

It turns out she had made him a card, and had not had time to give it to him before he passed. Brian and I did not take the kids down to see him that last week. We had decided we did not want them to be fearful of Papaw or remember him as being so sick. Their happy memories of him needed to stay fresh in their little minds and hearts. Which is exactly how it has been.

Korinne was not sad Saturday morning, I think she just knew I would want to keep that most precious card.

I'm going to tuck it away into our big family bible for now to save for her until she is grown. I'm pretty sure my Grandpa has read it already anyway. He probably showed it off to Jesus, beaming with pride, saying, "look what my great-granddaughter made for me." Then Jesus hung it on Heaven's fridge.
